Note I haven’t been using this Dernier Cosmetics Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C serum long term, so this review provides short term observations. I am daily user of hyaluronic acid and an occasional user of vitamin C serums, so I have some basis to compare products.Before testing this product, I did some quick research on the company and ingredients. Dernier Cosmetics is a Venezuelan cosmetics company whose products do not appear to be available in any of my local physical U.S. cosmetics stores. I did a quick search on each of the ingredients, which appear to be mostly common, generally safe cosmetic ingredients. The listed ingredients on the back of the bottle include: Aqua (Water), Nano Ascorbic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Peg-12 dimethicone, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), EDTA, and Citric Acid.I am not a chemist or dermatologist, but from my quick research the couple of ingredients some folks might wish to pay attention to is imidazolidinyl urea, which is apparently a common cosmetics preservative (and possibly linked to small amounts of formaldehyde), to which some people may develop sensitivities over time. There is also sodium benzoate which is also a common preservative that some people may be sensitive to. I have found that Urea and Vitamin-C can be mildly irritating to my skin in high quantities. I did feel a small tingle using this product, but that is normal for me with urea and vitamin c based products and I didn’t experience any unusual, negative, or noticeable issues over the short term. This product seems to use pretty common cosmetics ingredients, so I have no concerns. I do appreciate that the ingredients list isn’t a mile long.The product is applied via an easy to use glass dropper with instructions to apply 2-4 drops to the face daily, in the morning or at night, the spread using your fingertips. I provided a “swatch” photo to show what two full droppers deposited on the hand looks like. Note that if you apply this product in the morning, you’ll probably want to wear sunscreen given it is a vitamin C product. The bottle will probably deplete “quickly” if you choose to apply the full 4 drops, but this product is much less expensive than comparable products I use.I applied this serum to only the right side of my face for a few days after coming inside from harsh winter air, so I would be able to compare with the left side of my face if there were any reactions. I didn’t notice my skin getting any redder or anything negative on the right side. I didn’t experience any sensitivity and the right side of my face does feel slightly more hydrated. I can definitely feel that product has been applied to one side of my face versus the other. I am very sensitive to fragrances and appreciate that this product doesn’t appear to have any added fragrances. It has a slight inherent scent I can best describe as kids glue stick, but it is very, very faint (unless you’re sniffing the bottle directly) and not noticeable once applied to the skin. I did not test this with any other moisturizers or sunscreens because I wanted to test the product standalone, but I would recommend applying a heavier moisturizer AFTER using this serum, and of course use sunscreen.Overall, I plan to continue using until the bottle is empty and then go from there. So far, seems like a pretty solid product and a decent value.

While the ingredient list for this serum is relatively short and simple, it does have a few questionable ingredients and ones which could have been avoided for this to be a really great serum. There are three ingredients with higher hazard ratings, with Imidazolidinyl Urea being the one I’m most concerned about.The serum is fragrance free however, a huge positive in my view since I try to avoid chemically fragranced skincare. That alone brings the rating up for me.This serum has a more watery texture than many serums I’ve tried. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any sticky residue, which is nice. As I mentioned, it has no added fragrance. It leaves my skin soft to the touch. A moisturizer is needed after the serum absorbs. It comes in a compact white opaque glass jar with a glass dropper. There are detailed instructions on the jar.The product is from a Venezuelan brand that has recently expanded to the U.S. so it’s hard to know how good their products really are.I like that this hyaluronic acid and vitamin c serum is fragrance free, has a short ingredient list and is non-sticky. I wish they would have formulated it without the use of imidazolidinyl urea and sodium benzoate as preservatives. There are many other options for cosmetic preservatives that have less safety concerns associated with them. However the small amounts generally used in cosmetics and skincare are supposed to be safe. As it seems to be a decent product in other respects I’m giving it 4 stars.
