UPDATE: Call me an ex Homedics user – this one’s great!
Update as of May 2014:TWO YEARS now – and this massager is still going strong and I continue to use it almost daily. It would make a great gift to anyone who needs a massage tool. This is built with the kind of quality we rarely see in affordable gadgets any more. It runs as well as new after two years of almost daily use!—–Here it is, almost a year later, this massager is still the BEST EVER. It works daily, I use it once, sometimes twice a day. It helps shoulders, back, legs, anything that gets muscle soreness can benefit. It performs as well today as when it was brand new. This is much much better than any Homedics I ever had. I used to replace Homedics once or twice a year, often because the cords went defective. This unit is absolutely a great buy for the price.—–I first heard about percussive massagers in a message board frequented by people with fibromyalgia. Since I had knotted muscles too and spent a great deal of money getting weekly massages, I was always trying out new massagers. The percussive massagers turned out to be the answer. I tried several brands and settled on Homedics as the best value. The problem was consistency. Homedics came out with new features annually – but sometimes, the units just weren’t as intense as they used to be and I needed them to be INTENSE. I began to read reviews looking for complaints like, “This thing HURTS!” because that generally pointed toward an effective massager. This unit, which is branded “TheraRUB PH,” is as good as any Homedics massager I ever had. The cord is long enough – about twice the length of an average interior door – so you can lie down and have someone use it on your back and walk all around you. I will probably tape, silicone or otherwise reinforce the cord where it attaches to the handle – that has been a weak spot for several Homedics units. That’s what killed the Homedics I’m replacing. I’m used to daily massage so I bought a replacement right away. The handle is stubbier and bigger around but I have small hands and it’s not too large to use comfortably. It’s a fair weight – within a few ounces either way of various models of Homedics. It’s much lighter than some massagers I’ve tried – my first Thumper weighed about seven pounds!I’ve used it for a couple of days and it’s doing just fine. I’m happy to find a replacement and hope this company sticks with the factory that makes it. It WILL gain a following if they stay available.

    Works Great!
I like the Therarub percussion massager very much. All I have owned to this date were Homedics massagers. I could only afford to purchase them on ebay as new items. They would last about a year and then the cord would shoot flames and break. I would take apart the Homedics massager, strip the cord wires, solder them and put heat shrink tubing over the repair. I would beef up the break with some electrical tape. This repair would last for a few months. Homedics massagers would typically last a year to two years. and then need to be replaced. The Therarub appears after initial use to be a better product. The cord is round (as opposed to flat) which should give the cord a longer life. From being in the construction industry of 30 years, I know that round electrical cords last much longer than flat. In fact, flat cords went out of use 30 years ago.The Therarub handle is larger. But it does have a nice vinyl grip which I like better than the hard plastic handle on the homedics.. The massage heads are a softer. They are not hard plastic. The massage action is excellent and should be considered a deep tissue massager. It is also quieter. This model does not have heat, but I never used the heat anyway.Mine was delivered to the front door and is warm from sitting in the summer sun. It does have a smell, the smell is not bad. It reminds me of baby powder. But when paying more attention to the smell, it does seem to be the smell of warm plastic – kind of like what a beach ball would smell like. I expect the smell to go away. But if it doesn’t that is not a problem. The big difference I noticed right away is the Therarub massager is well balanced and stays where I put it. I can put it on my shoulders and it stays there. It does not need me to hold it there with one hand.I have used Homedics for years, but the Therarub is much better.
